The First Step

THE FIRST STEP started in early 2001 with two simple goals in mind: to invigorate their local North Carolina scene and to write fast, thrashy hardcore that was lyrically honest and open. While the last 4 years have taken them all over the North America and Europe (including a three week European tour with DAMAGE CONTROL and a ten day west coast tour with CHAMPION) the goals still remain the same. During this time, The First Step has released two EP's, a self-titled 7'' and the ''Open Hearts and Clear Minds'' 7''/EP which were also put out as a combined release on CD/LP. As time goes by TFS has only become stronger and more focused on their ideals as a band and the music they love playing, with the ''What we know'' LP as their latest result.

The urgency and intensity of YOUTH OF TODAY, the positive delivery of INSTED, and a strongly rooted foundation in old D.C. and Orange County. Exploding with speed and a blistering vocal delivery, 'What we know' has much of what we've come to expect from TFS: honest, thought-provoking hardcore. Though this time around, there's something new in the mix compared to their previous work. Whether it's a Dischord-esque guitar riff reminiscent of MINOR THREAT, a bouncing rhythm ala BAD BRAINS, or a driving beat and harmonizing vocals like that of UNIFORM CHOICE, this album has undeniably fused the old TFS with a new power. The music, the message: it has returned.
